Tripping Out... All About LSD... Part 1  LSD was literally discovered by mistake by Dr. Alex Hofmann, he was trying to find a new stimulant but actually found one of the most potent drugs you can take. After unwittingly taking it himself he fell into a dream like state and saw imaginary shapes, colours and pictures. That would have been pretty mad, hey? This happened because LSD is a hallucinogen; these types of drugs have been around for centuries and were often used for religious purposes due to what they do in terms of opening your mind. However before research to their full medical use could be done, LSD was made illegal because of its misuse.
 There are many other hallucinogens and they all have similar effects to LSD, so take the following facts as being about all hallucinogens, although some of other ones are mentioned below and in the article on Magic Mushrooms:
What it is and what it looks like:  LSD is short for Lysergic Acid Diethylamide and is most commonly known as acid. It’s white crystalline and has no smell, it’s soluble in water and so is diluted in it and either put on blotting paper (often called tabs) or in pills or tablets so it can be taken. It’s an illegal to have, make or sell it and is a Class ‘A’ drug so if you do any of the above you wouldn’t get a caution you would get the most serious punishments associated with illegal drugs.
 How you take it:
Acid is taken by putting a tab on you tongue and let the acid soak in or if it’s a tablet it’s swallowed. Sometimes it’s put into drinks, this is often how people have their drinks spiked. How you buy it and how much it costs:  You usually buy acid as tabs, which is where a microdot of the acid is soaked into paper, with a cool design on it. One tab, enough for one trip, costs about £2.50 to a fiver, bigger amounts can be bought as they usually come from a big sheet, with individual trip being torn off, like a sheet of stamps. What it’s also known as:  Acid, Trips, Tabs, Purple Haze, Dee, Big D, Blue Cheer, Sunshine Yellow, Strawberry Fields, Hawk, Chief, Instant Zen, Star Wave, Om, White Dove, Strawberry or are named after what’s printed on the paper the acid is soaked into.
