Addictions

The dictionary defines addiction as...

"A Compulsive physiological and psychological need for a habit-forming substance" or "The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or involved in something.".

Many people think that addiction must involve a hard illegal drug like heroin or crack but that's far from the case. As the dictionary says, it's anything that can take up our time, all the time. Yeah this can include hard drugs but there's soooo much more than that.

People can get addicted to TV, Computer Games and Shopping... it may not sound true but it's a fact.

However for the time being we're going to concentrate on four major things that people can get addicted to:

Alcohol:

It may seem so but alcohol is a drug and a dangerous and powerfully addictive one at that. We go through what alcohol does to you, why it affects people differently, how it can affect you in the long term, how to get over a hangover, how to tell if you have a problem, where to get help, how to cut down, how you can be pressured by friends into drinking plus 'our stories' from people who've been there.

Drugs

Although Alcohol and tobacco are drugs we've given them there own sections but here we go through the rest of the illegal and legal drugs. Get all the info here on cannabis, coke, crack, ecstasy, heroin, LSD, magic mushrooms, amphetamines, amyl nitrate, ketamine, GHB, Anabolic steroids, solvents, caffeine and downers.

Gambling

More money each year is being spent on gambling in this country so we tell you what compulsive gambling is, how to tell if you have a problem and where to get help.

Smoking

Smoking related diseases are a big killer of people in the UK today but it's still legal and powerfully addictive. We give you the low-down on how smoking affects the body, how it can affect you in the long term, how you can get pressured into it, 'our stories' on smoking plus tips to quit.

Plus look out for ore coming to the pupiline addictions section very soon.

If you or anybody you know are having problems with alcohol try the following places for help and support @ the Addictions Links Page.
