Pills and Powders... Cocaine and Crack ... Part2 Read on for more information about Cocaine and Crack. How long it takes to feel the effects and how long they last for: Cocaine takes about 1-4 minutes to start work and the high lasts for about 15-30 minutes, when it’s in its powder form it’s on average 30-60% pure. To keep the effects of coke constant it must be snorted every 20 minutes. Now here’s the reason crack has taken off, it works immediately as smoking delivers it to the brain a lot quicker than by snorting it and in this form, when freebased, it is on average 88% pure. However the effects only last a matter of minutes, peaking within a couple of minutes and taking it and will be fully worn off within 15 minutes. So crack must be taken more often than coke to keep a constant high. How it affects you: As with any drug, effects depend on the user and their body, what they expect of the drug, where they are, the purity of the drug and how much is used and for how long. When you snort coke, the effects are very similar to those of amphetamines. As coke was once used as a painkiller, you're not as receptive to pain and tiredness as well as believing you have greater mental and physical strength. Coke gives you a sense of well-being, excitement, pleasure, exhilaration and high confidence, users are a lot more talkative, social and less inhibited, they’re more open to suggestions and think everything they do is fantastic. Many people think it helps them cope with stressful situations, which is why it is often associated with highly paid but stressful jobs. As crack gets to the brain faster and is more pure, all the effects of coke are experienced but in a higher and more intense way, plus there are feelings of extreme euphoria. What it does to you: When you sort a line of coke your heart rate and pulse rate quickens, your mouth goes dry and your pupils enlarge, you lose your appetite and sweat quite a bit. As it’s a painkiller you nose actually goes numb, feels cold of feels like it’s burning, when the coke wears off the nose warms up and becomes runny like when you have a bad cold. Some may also experience insomnia, exhaustion, diarrhoea, and tightness in the chest, buzzing in the ears and not being able to relax. The same goes for crack but instead of affecting your nose, it affects your throat, as it’s not inhaled but smoke. It can make it sore, give you a bad cough, make you lose you voice and have problems breathing.
