Tackling The Big Apple...A Diary of 5 Days in New York City...Part 2

Our writer, Vick, went over to the 'Big Apple'...NYC to see what's going on, check it out and...oh yeah... shop. Here's the second part in her diary of what she got up to.

Day 4: Monday 8th October - The Empire State Building…ooh and more shopping!

Before we visited the Empire State Building we obviously had to do some more shopping. But this time it was serious shopping...we meant business! Remember these next shops and roads and you’ll be sorted for clothes shopping in New York. We will start at Lexington Avenue. On these streets they have a Diesel shop, Levi’s store, Bloomingdale’s and an enormous Tower Records for all you hardcore music lovers. And that is just to name a few! Next we caught a cab down to the Theatre District. Here the street to look out for is Lafayette Street. This area is big on Skate and Surf clothes. Every shop will have all the skate and surf brands that you have ever dreamed for (Habitat, Zoo York, Quiksilver etc.) plus new clothes designs that might not ever get into Britain. How cool is that?! Another area you wanna check out is Soho. There are many shops that sell popular brand names but at bargain prices. Carhartt, for one, was a name that sold its brand a lot cheaper.

After our shopaholic morning, it was another cab up to the Empire State Building. This was placed on 5th Avenue and can be seen pretty much anywhere in New York, it's huge. The best thing of all is that you can actually go inside the building and go right to the top! Be patient when you see the long and tedious queue...when you finally get to the top, the spectacular view is well worth the wait! Despite the coldness of the early evening we stayed at the top of the building for a good hour just watching the madness of the rest of the city down below. After a good browse around the gift shop to buy yellow taxicab and NYPD cop car toys we were ready for a burger then bed!

Day 5: Tuesday 9th October – Times Square

Our last day and God was everyone upset about that! We were all very quiet, knowing that in a few hours time we would be on the plane home to ye old Blighty. So to cheer ourselves up we had pancakes and syrup for breakfast...yummy! A short cab ride and we found ourselves in Times Square, the brightest lit place in the city. There was a certain buzz about that this place, even during the day. The streets were bustling and the buildings had brightly-lit adverts projected on the side of them. As there was a good few hours before the airport excursion, we all decided to go in for the American cinema experience. A typical cinema here has about 24 screens in the building and is as big as any skyscraper! I can't say much else about the cinema apart from it was big! During the film I was so tired that I shut me eyes and had 40 winks before we went on to our next stop.

That afternoon, once everyone had recovered from our tiring night we had a few games of American pool. All of a sudden I found myself the champion of pool which I decided to feel quite cocky about (as my normal pool record is pitiful). This was until I was informed that the balls and pockets are much larger in America. So for all you guys out there wanting to impress the girls at your pool playing abilities, try an American-sized table. Believe me if I can look good at playing pool, anyone can!! So before we knew it our last day had past and we were now sitting on the plane ready for take-off. In 7hours time we would be back to normal, back in England. A depressing thought but at least I experienced the city of New York. At least 7 hours is a long enough flight which enables me plenty of time to plan my next trip to New York.
