hAz's Big Adventure...A Journey To Another Side Of The World I've been to places some 12 year olds have not even heard of. This place is Down Under. Yes I have been to the great down under and I am only 12 years old. First I flew to Singapore, but I did not go by my self, I went with my grandparents, they've been there 4 times. We stayed in the New Otani Hotel .The hotel was placed right next to the river-side so we could watch the boats go past. Or we could go out and eat in one of the many seafood restaurants. We did that the first night we were there. I can't remember what the restaurant was called, but it had nice seafood, however I'm not a lover of seafood so I had sweet and sour chicken!!. We only had 3 nights there and on the last day we went to the Singapore discovery centre. That was all about what's happened in Singapore over the last 10 to 20 years including wars and how they used to live in Singapore when it was being rebuilt. That day we left Singapore for Perth Australia there we stayed in a self-catering hotel. We had 2 weeks in Perth and they were the best…..on the beach every day! One night we had fish and chips, but it was not cod, it was shark and it was the best shark I have ever had ;-). In the 2 weeks we had there, we met up with relatives, and one day we went to The Perth Mint, which is were they used to keep all of the money and gold nuggets. We had a tour around the place and saw a picture of the world's biggest golden nugget. There was a machine that weighs you and tells you your cost in gold. I was $1,500,000,000 - a lot of money. We went to Kings Park... the only park in Perth, where you can see all of Perth. We then toured around Perth and went on a wine trip. All that was a good part of my 5 ˝ week holiday Down Under. Then we flew from Perth to Ayers Rock…the part of the holiday that I was looking forward to most. We arrived and were taken to our hotel, in this part of Australia there only 6 hotels!!! Here the temp gets up to about 50-60°c and you can cook eggs on the ground!. That night we watched the sunset over Ayers Rock and I decided this is why I travelled 13,000 miles, to see something so spectacular... it was out of this world. The next morning we watched the sunrise…amazing. That day we travelled Kings Canyon, a 6-hour drive, we did not see a another car and the scenery was something not of this world. In the 'Out Back' there is not a lot of rain, but when we went they had just had 3 years rain in 3 weeks! There was green grass, which was a very rare site in the out back. On the drive sadly we did not see any kangaroos :-(( When we got to Kings Canyon we stayed at the Kings Canyon Resort. The next day my Grandad and I woke up at 4:30am to go and walk up to the top of Kings Canyon and to see the Sunrise. The walk took about 5 hours, but it was well with it. That day we hopped back on the bus and had another 6 hours drive to Alice Springs. In Alice we had a week there and we went to the flying doctors HQ. We just relaxed there. We flew next to Melbourne and stayed with a relative of mine and had a good time with them. Next we went to Auckland, New Zealand and stayed with other relatives. There, we went up to The Bay of Islands and saw dolphins, 50 to 60 in a pod for about 1-2 hours... amazing. Then we finally flew to Penang, in Malaysia. This was the bit I most liked, because the hotel was right on the beach, we didn't leave the hotel because it had everything we wanted. It was great and we stayed there for a week, then we had the 13,000 mile journey (!) back home to very cold England. There it finishes and I hope you can go on the holiday that I went on and I hope you enjoy it to.
