Toy Story Racer - PSX - £29.99 by Activision

Out Now

OH NO!.....I hear you cry, not another bloomin' kart racer game, they've been done to death and to add insult to injury this ones based on a film. So all the ingredients are there to make this a terrible game but fortunately you're wrong my friend so very very wrong and Toy Story Racer is bloody brilliant.

Just think about it, Toy Story, in a computer game, with all the fantastic characters, racing against each other, shouting 'to infinity and beyond' whilst throwing toys at each other.... sounds like the most fun you could have with this overused racing genre....doesn't it? Well if it doesn't you're either lying, not seen the films (in which case your very sad) or probably just ceased breathing.

'Oh yeah', you say, 'well I'm sick of this type of game...Mariokart will always be the best for me'...Ok, granted Mariokart is great but if you're a sucker for the racer then this will be right up you street and the Toy Story fan will love it even more.

Not only is the idea enticing but Activision have really pulled it off, in terms of the characters, the racing environments and the overall challenge and playability. You have ten characters at your disposal from Woody and Buzz to Bo-Peep and Mr Potato Head. Not only that, but all tracks are based on the locations of both the films and are amazingly intricate and detailed. But the real icing on the cake is the fact there is over a 100 different challenges, as you can have three-race challenge, drive a single-race course, indulge in chases, embroil yourself in collection-quests, or you may enter into a combat battle.

The game looks great, as all the characters match the film and even though the real actors didn't led their voices to the game, the impersonators are more than convincing. If you love racers...then get it, love the film....then get it, dammit if you love good games buy it.

My Final Word: all together now...TO INFINITY AND BEYOND
