Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?   PSX - £24.99 - Out Now

Do you think that Casinos would still be popular if you didn't get vast wads of cash when you won? Just imagine; hitting the jackpot and getting a slap on the back and a "well done" instead of £10,000….hmmm, actually - that'd suck wouldn't it? What'd be the point?

So what exactly, is the point of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire on the Playstation? A game based on the phenomenally successful TV show, starring the rubbery-faced Chris Tarrant. I mean, if you can't actually win any money - then why bother playing it?

You can't blame me for being a bit sceptical, this game should be really boring, and when you compare it to every other game on the PSX - the question/answer "gameplay" is woefully thin and simplistic - somehow though, this is actually pretty cool.

You see, if you think about it, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is all about atmosphere. If you stripped away the heart-stopping music, nerve-inducing lighting and Chris Tarrant's facial expressions - you'd be left with a flat, lifeless, multiple choice quiz…. albeit with a rather large cash prize.

Good job then, that the Playstation version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire has atmosphere by the bucket load. The music, graphics and yes, Chris Tarrant are all faithfully reproduced - so well in fact, that my mum thought I was watching the program on TV when I was playing!

It's a great laugh - when you phone a friend for example, you get a fictitious voice at the other end of the line who tries to help you with the question, which for some reason I found hilarious. All of Chris Tarrant's catchphrases are in there too, which really helps the atmosphere (although visually, Chris himself and all the audience seem to be missing, leaving two empty chairs….which is odd), strangely though you can't turn his voice off - which means you have to endure his ramblings every time you play….sheeeesh.

This game will be a sure fire winner for Christmas. It's the sort of title that becomes totally repetitive if you play on your own for too long, but comes alive when played with a whole group of people in multi-player mode.

The only worry I've got with Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, is the number of questions it has to offer. I've played it about 20-odd times now, and already the same questions have come up - and I'm sure if you played loads of times then you'd get to know most of answers….perhaps some kind of add-on disc should become available?

Well anyway, you pretty much know what to expect if you buy this game - it is basically the hit TV gameshow on your Playstation, so if you like the idea of that then you'll like this. Just don't expect a huge cheque if you manage to answer the £1million question! (and yes Chris; that is my final answer!)
