Work Completed In Manchester, So Far

The Royal Exchange

This was first major building to be restored after the bomb, opening in November 1998. The most stunning aspect of its restoration is the studio theatre, which seats 100 people.

Marks & Spencer

Re-opened in November 1999, it is the largest Marks & Spencer in the world. The spectacular Corporation Street Tubular Bridge links it to the Arndale Centre, the old shopping centre in the city centre. This centre has also undergone a facelift, which is especially evident along the Corporation Street side and with the development of a new concept Boots store.

Exchange Square and The Triangle

The latest areas to re-open are the Exchange Square and The Triangle at the Corn Exchange. Exchange Square has been called Manchester's newest and most exciting meeting place. It contains Windmill Sculptures and Waterfield River beds. The riverbed is intended to reflect the line of the Hanging Ditch-Manchester's Medieval landmatch. It is designed to link both the newly designed buildings and more traditional buildings that Manchester contains; e.g. it links the new Marks & Spencer with the old Corn Exchange.

The Corn Exchange itself has also been the focus of redevelopment work, resulting in the opening of the TRIANGLE on August 22nd 2000. The Triangle is a new shopping centre, housed in the Corn Exchange. It boasts designer names such as Karen Millen, Muji and Calvin Klein underwear.
