Work Experience Stories: Sarah Working @ Ipswich Evening Star For my work experience, I was lucky enough to work in the photographic department at the Evening Star - Ipswich's leading local newspaper. On the application form, they sent back to me, it described the work I would be doing as 'shadowing a reporter'. I had no idea it would turn out as wicked as it did! The first day was spent showing me around and showing me how to use the editing equipment. When I knew what I was doing, I was able to go out on assignments with the photographers. The week I was there, Ipswich Town were battling their way through the Division 1 playoffs, so I was taken down to Portman Road a lot, which I enjoyed! The highlight of my two weeks was going to, Ipswich Town 'goalie', Richard Wright's wedding. I was invited down with the reporter and photographer covering the story, and actually stood next to some of our greatest players, cue my 'star-struck sigh'. As well as meeting Karen Pickering, being taken out on an amazing boat trip and seeing the Wembley tickets (for Ipswich's playoff final) stacked up at the football ground, I was asked to take some pictures, some of which were used at a later date in the paper. Overall I had a wonderful two weeks, and armed with a very complimentary report from my supervisor, I was extremely reluctant to go back to school.
