Big Brother - The Final! So, last week it was the Big Brother final. The numbers in the house had finally got from 10 down to the final 3: Darren, Anna and Craig. This is the story of what happened in those final hours.
The first eviction took place at 9pm. I think it was clear to most people that Darren was going to be the 8th person to be evicted out of the Big Brother house. When he heard his name come up there was no sign of sadness or disappointment but lots of shouting and cheering. He was greeted by the 2000 crowd and was also reunited with his 3 kids.
This left Anna (the skateboarding nun) and Craig (the builder from Liverpool) to battle it out.
In the end it was between the two contestants. As the winner was announced the two hugged each other particularly when host Davina McCall left them in suspense for a few moments. When Craig's name was announced as the winner, Anna congratulated him before Craig let out a massive cheer.
When Anna was let out of the house she told Davina that she was just very happy to be out of that "mad house". She also won a holiday for 2 to Barbados so I'm sure she wasn't complaining too much.
The winner though, Craig 'errr' Phillips, was over the moon with his win and even got to take the unicycle from one of their final tasks. But, of course, the money was the all important part of Big Brother. Once the first greetings were over, he explained that he was going to give all of the £70,000 prize money to a close friend Joanna who needs a heart and lung transplant. She has Down Syndrome she can only have it done privately in America-which amounts to a total cost of £250,000. Personally, I think that's a lovely way of using the money and hopefully donations will soon be flooding in for the rest of the money.
In a nice twist 'Nasty' Nick Bateman was invited back to hand over the money to Craig. As the Big Brother house lights were switched off the crowd continued to cheer Craig, the winner of Big Brother 2000.
So now that the 'phenomenon of the summer' has finished what are we all going to do with ourselves? The apprehension that so many people are going to feel lost without it has prompted a help line for these people. But, fear not all Big Brother fans, not only are there talks going on for a second series there are lots of other plans for similar style challenges. On Channel 5, a series called Jailbreak has just started where people have to either work as a team to get out of a jail to win slightly less money than if they get out individually. Of course it is supposed to be harder to get out individually.
There are also quizzes where this format is being used such as the BBC2 quiz, The Weakest Link. People answer questions to gain money and after every section of time they have to vote out who they think is not answering the questions the best, in other words vote out the weakest link.
I think that we will all survive the loss of Big Brother and will soon be able to carry on with our every day lives. I dare say that we will still be reminded of this year's Big Brother as the faces from it will still appear at various celebrity bashes and as they release various songs (Nichola being the first to do this). For now though I wish to congratulate Craig for winning and all the people involved for making such a great TV programme! Link to http://www.channel4.com/bigbrother
