The summer is over in Oz and apart from that meaning the end of the really hot days, it also means a change in the sports seasons. Cricket in Australia has finished till next season and AFL Footy is back. We are well into the AFL season now and we are starting to get an idea of which teams have improved or worsened since last year.
Apart from AFL, rugby league has also started again. The State of Origin has just been where Queensland beat New South Wales, and now they are back to the normal home and away season.
Over Easter the Bells Beach Rip Curl Pro Surfing comp was held. Last years world champ, Hawaiian, Sunny Garcia was favourite along with six time world champ Kelly Slater, who is making a comeback from retirement, but neither of them made the final. It was an all Aussie final between Danny Wills and wildcard, Mick Fanning. Fanning, the underdog beat all odds to become only the second wildcard ever to win a world championship event.
Very soon the Australian cricket team will be flying over to England to compete against them in the Ashes series, Go Aussies! The other news in cricket is that the Australian cricket team will become the highest paid sporting team in Australia and the highest paid cricket team in the world, after a huge pay increase was announce for the players. The world should get its first million dollar Cricketer as soon as 2002.
