31st July 2000 Youngsters urged to take part in exam stress survey It’s that time of year – the exams may be over, but now there’s the wait for the big moment – results day! Now a website run by a Suffolk teenager is trying to gauge just how stressful that is for youngsters across the UK as they wait to find out what the future holds for them! Pupiline.net, an e-magazine for 11-17 year-olds, is carrying out an exam results stress survey to find out how much pressure young people feel to get good grades and where they feel the pressure is coming from. Pupiline.net editor, 16-year-old schoolboy Oli Watts, who runs pupiline from offices in Ipswich, and is a pupil at the Gilberd School in Colchester, explained: "It’s easy to assume that once the exams are over, that’s it, but lots of people have been telling me that the period between now and when results come out is actually even more stressful. So we thought we’d carry out a survey of our own, to find out more. In particular we hope to find out how young people cope with that pressure. We think the findings may prove very interesting." Pupiline is hoping that youngsters everywhere who are waiting for exam results, whether they be GCSE’s, A Levels or GNVQs, will log onto the website at www.pupiline.net and fill in the survey. "We would really like to get as many responses as we can," explained Oli, to make sure we get a real feel for the sort of impact this period of a young person’s life has on them and how they cope with it." Pupiline has also set up a discussion forum on the website which gives visitors to the site the chance to share their exam stress experiences and to offer one another support and tips on how to cope with it. Anyone who fills in the survey will automatically be entered for a prize draw to win packs of Lush products to help them de-stress not distress!
