When I told my family about my pregnancy I received mixed feelings from them. My Nan was very disappointed in me but I expected that anyway as she is from an older generation. My Granddad didn't really say anything. My boyfriend's family were really upset when I told them and they still haven't excepted it now and my daughter is 18 months old.
Friends at school didn't take to it very well. When you're in a group and they're all having sex with guys its ok, but as soon as one of you gets pregnant then its different. None of them came to see me when I was pregnant or afterwards. I didn't want them to anyway, as they had ignored me and I was different to them now anyway. It wouldn't be the same for me as I had responsibilities while they were still silly young teenagers.
If your pregnant now and your thinking about keeping the baby, don't think that it's going to be easy, because it's not. You might have to do it without the baby's father being around and you may lose all your friends. You might not even be as lucky as some, who have their parents support. Girls in this situation can get advice from their own Doctor but if you don't feel comfortable doing this then you could get in touch with: BPAS British Pregnancy Advisory Service call 0845 730 4030. They offer free confidential advice about pregnancy and abortion. And don't worry if you don't want your parents to get involved as they don't have to.
If you're not sure if you are pregnant or not and you can't afford to buy a pregnancy test, most chemist that have a Pharmacy do their own pregnancy tests for £5, which is cheaper than the brand names. Just ask and they should do it for you.
