Alternative Zone

Well we made it my friends, the third issue of alternative  zone and still rockin' away like there's no tomorrow. To anyone who is going to see the Deftones on Sunday.....I hate you and may only forgive you if you bring me back Chino Mareno.I'll be reviewing that gig next issue thanks to a kind friend. Enjoy (o:

Here Comes The Summer

The weather may not be acting like it but summer is just around the corner and what does that mean? Oh yes Festival time. And we're not talking no clean, lean, pop-tastic field full of screaming young girls and bright banners stating 'we love you Craig David/ Hear'say etc'. We're talking mud, bad toilet facilities and decent bands. With the cancellation of Glastonbury, you'd be forgiven for thinking that there's no point in 'festing' it this year but with  Placebo, Foo Fighters and even Red Hot Chilli Peppers gracing the stages hope is not lost:

T-In The Park- 7-8th July at Balado by Kinross, Scotland

  • Tickets- £64 for the weekend and £35 for a one day pass
  • Worth it?- well with bands like Texas and The Stereophonics headlining then it may appear to look like a naff weekend, but no, Placebo, Ash and JJ72 have also sneaked there way in to the line-up so yes it is worth the trip.

V2001- 18-19th August at Hylands park, Chelmsford and Weston Park Staffordshire

  • Tickets- £76 for the weekend and £38.50 for a one day pass
  • Worth it?- among your usual decent indie groups such as Coldplay, Toploader, Grandaddy etc. they've mixed in some fantastic bands such as Muse, Foo Fighters, and the mighty Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
  • Call: 0115 912 9115 for Weston Park gig or 0207 287 0932 for Hylands Park

Carling Weekend (Reading to you and me)- Reading Richfield Avenue: 24-26th August, Leeds Temple Newsam Park: 24-26th August

  • Tickets- £85 for the weekend and £40 for a  one day pass
  • Worth it?- If you think you can survive a day or two with that stuck up, commercial arse that is Eminem then you'll get to enjoy the likes of Greenday, Feeder, Queens of The Stone Age, Weezer, Papa Roach, Ash, Mogwai, Grand Theft Audio and I could go on.
  • Call: 08701 500 044

Hints and Tips for Festival Survival:

  • The toilets aren't going to be  luxury so be warned and bringing a roll of loo paper isn't a bad idea.

  • I wouldn't touch most festival food with a barge pole but if u are peckish stick to things like chips and anything without meat or fish in.

  • Keep hold of your belongings especially purses, mobiles and stuff and try not to leave your bag anywhere or put it down. The same applies if your camping, make sure u keep anything valuable with you.

  • It's sods' law that there'll be two bands you want to see playing at different stages at the same time. It sucks so work out which ones you definately want to catch before you go, seeing the bands that don't often tour in the UK is obviously a good idea.

  • MUD read it and take it in because it is likely that thousands of people, a field and some rain will make plenty of it, wear sensible clothing and shoes and dont take anything u dont want to get wet/nicked/muddy etc.

ENJOY YOURSELF!!!!!!
