Pop News Update...13th June 2001

Hello, pop fans, and welcome to the fourth Pupiline Pop News Update! I hope you enjoy it. In case you hadn't guessed from the title, my job is to inform you on all the latest goings on in the pop music world.

Atomic Kitten are some lucky pussies! Just before 'Whole Again' was released, they were almost dropped by their record company. That record company must be very glad they didn't drop the girls, as 'Whole Again' is one of the biggest singles of the year so far and they have just received an award for being the most successful female trio ever! The girls' new single, 'Eternal Flame 'will be out in a few weeks, and looks set to be a huge summer hit.

Look out for T-Babe, a virtual pop star, whose single 'Peter Pumpkineater' is out now. It's worth forking out for, as half the proceeds go to the charity, Teenage Cancer Trust.

July 8th is going to be a great day for pop music, as it's date of Party In The Park 2001. The show will feature top bands, such as Hear'say, Ronan, Craig David, Geri, David Gray, Shaggy, Wyclef Jean, Atomic Kitten, Li'l Bow Wow, Emma Bunton and many more top pop stars. It will be held by Capital FM in Hyde park and can be seen live on ITV, presented by Ant, Dec and Cat from SM:TV - sounds great, doesn't it!

If dance music's more your thing, then there's always the Channel 4 summer tour, featuring Fatboy Slim and Groove Armada, or if you're into rock, try any of the many rock festivals taking place across the UK, such as the wild Carling Weekend.

We've all heard of old couples wearing matching "his-and-hers" tracksuits, well, two members of everyone's favourite (or least favourite) celebrity family are now sporting matching mohican hair-dos! Yep, David and Brooklyn Beckham have both gone for the look! Whatever next!

You may not have even heard of Phil Collins, but don't let it put you off buying Urban Renewal, a tribute album to him featuring today's r'n'b and hip-hop stars. The album includes songs by Li'l Kim, Kelis, ODB, Debelah Morgan, Joe, TQ and even our own Dane Bowers. It also includes the top ten single, 'Another Day in Paradise' by Brandy and Ray-J.

A few weeks ago I informed you of the Disney Channel tour, well now I can tell you about the Disney Channel Kids Awards Final 2001! The show will include performances from Steps, Westlife, A1 and even *Nsync, as well as many more bands to be confirmed. It takes place on Saturday 22nd September 2001 at London Docklands Arena and tickets are £15 each.

Call 0870 1200 140 for more info and you can also visit the website, www.disney.co.uk/kidsawards.

Next time you're travelling down the motorway and come across a service station with a Little Chef restaurant, I'd say it was well worth popping in. If you are under sixteen, you can get a free Smash Hits magazine and CD. You can choose from BBMak, Dane Bowers, O-Town, Westlife, Dream and Five and each has two songs on it. A Fun Meal costs £3.49 and you get a meal, ice cream and drink. Visit www.little-chef.co.uk for more information.

Pop Picks

Here are my pop picks for this fortnight.

Song: O-Town - All Or Nothing (A nice ballad from the TV stars/boyband)

New group: Bellefire (Four girls from Ireland with a great debut single)

TV Show: Popstars Australia (Almost as good as the British alternative)

Website: www.capitalfm.com Home of Party In The Park)

I've got to go now, but I'll be back in a fortnight with more of the latest pop news. If you can't wait that long, check out my personal pop music website, http://website.lineone.net/~poptastic. Enjoy it!
