What's Going in Rock, Punk, Metal and Alternative Check out first in our weekly guide to news and reviews of Rock, Punk, Metal and Alternative music. New Releases Marylin Manson - Holy Wood This amazing album consists of typical Manson-style powerful anthems, beautiful slow rock ballads, and high quality vocals and guitar sounds. A great mix, and I think the most addictive album to be released in the past few months. A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms This is an incredible album, with a former Nine Inch Nails guitar tech, the lead singer of Tool, and an erstwhile Guns 'N' Roses drummer all mixed together into an altogether stunning album, both musically and lyrics-wise. http://www.aperfectcircle.com
The Offspring - Conspiracy of One Yet another great album from preppy punkers The Offspring. This album is very different from the material the band started off with, nearly 15 years ago, but it proves that even 30 year olds can kick ass! Check out some of their older stuff too. http://www.offspring.com News If you were lucky enough to see The Offspring on their recent tour in the UK (or anywhere else for that matter).. I was there too.. it rocked didn't it? Remember the support act? AFI? well they have a website too! (wow). it's: http://www.nitrorecords.com and then click on AFI, they're bacnd of then month at the moment. Nitro records is Dexter Holland's (of the Offspring) record label, with numerous punk bands signed.
The Offspring Gig @ Manchester Once most of the people had arrived, it was halfway through the AFI gig… AFI are a punk band that I don't think many people have heard of, but they are pretty amazing.. the opposite side of punk from The Offspring. Then, after standing around for about 30 mins, during which the atmosphere around us started getting more and more tense, the lights went down, and we heard the familiar intro to: 'Bad Habit'. As Noodles got into the main guitar part, the crowd went insane.. everyone crushed right into the middle of the standing area, and the energy was amazing. I nearly got killed a few times, but it was amazing! Halfway through the concert, they played the traditional ‘Intermission’ and they got the whole crowd to wave they’re arms in the air. Then, after loads more great songs (including lots of older ones), they finished off with ‘Want You Bad’ – they’re new single.
