New 'Arnie' Movie: The 6th Day - Reviewed

You know what to expect from an 'Arnie' film, but all this has changed, as the films have got worse and worse and the action has been toned down for the sake of ahem...acting. They used to be great....so is Arnie's career heading towards the toilet bowl as The Hunter predicted...well we took a look at his new release.

The 6th Day @ UGC, Ipswich

STARRING: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Robert Duvall, Michael Rooker, Michael Rappaport, Tony Goldwyn,

LINE ON THE POSTER: Are You Who You Think You Are?

BEST 'ARNIE' LINE: When I said "go screw yourself" I didn't mean it literally.

WHAT HAPPENS: Arnie plays Adam Gibson is the family man and good guy with the big heart and strong morals in a future America, which the film tells us is not to far off and cloning is now possible. However human cloning is not allowed due to the complexities of the brain, but surprise, surprise poor old animals are cloned left right and centre. Your dog dies....get the same one back by cloning, you run over next doors cat...clone it. Arnie does not agree with cloning, which is a probelm when he arrives late at his birthday party to see another version of himself enjoying the celebrations. So he is must find out what the hell is going on, while avoiding death at the hands of an evil gang who after him and trying to come to trems with the fact the world may not all it appears to be.

ANY GOOD?: For the first 40 minutes the film was extremely promising, with all the ingredients of the typical 80's classic Arnie film in place. Arnie's the ultra-goodguy, ex-army, in a futureworld, with ridiculous technology and inventions with evil co-orporations having a stranglehold over a confused society. It also had some great action sequences, gunfights and car-chases but, unfortunately, all this turned into was a very sludgy film with an extremely confused message and some diabolically bad plot twists and revelations. It got far too boring and the ending was a huge let down. Shame really as it had a good idea behind it and could have been a decent sci-fi film, but ultimately it was very, very flawed.

INTERESTING FACT: Arnie's character, Adam, is a reference to the story of Genesis in the bible, as is in the bit that goes 'God created man on the 6th day'. Nice one Arn, really classy.

LIKED IT, TRY: Totall Recall, Terminator or Predator or in fact most Arnie films before Terminator 2 as they're really good action films and a lot better than this.

MONEY: This cost a staggering $82 million to make and did have a promising opening weekend in the USA, taking  $13.02 million but has stalled at $33.001 millon. This could be bad news for Arnie, as his last film, 'End of Days', was a realtive flop. 'The 6th Day' is yet to hit foreign shores but the signs don't look good, but then the 'Austrian Oak' has just signed for Terminator 3, so his career is still banging in the balance.
