The Law and Stuffing Your Face Here are some examples of your rights when you go out to eat. - Anywhere you go to eat they must clearly display the prices of all the meals.
- When you next eat out even if it is at the poshest place in town or the local chippy you must remember that you have a right to reject food that is under your expectations. Although the food must only be rejected so long as your complaint is reasonable! This means that you can not give the food back because the chips are not under 5cm's long or the cutlery is silver not gold. Also the more you pay the expectations are generally higher. When you complain it is expected that complain as soon as possible, this gives them a chance to actually do something about it. If the food is of a poor quality or the service is reflecting a service expected of a 3-year-old kid, you'll be entitled to receive a discount of your meal. This does not mean that you walk out in anger or attack the manger because then you will own the right to call a solicitor when you are sitting in a prison cell.
- When you book a table, you would expect that when you get there there's not someone else sitting and eating on that table. You are entitled to get compensation. This also works both ways; if you don't turn up the place is entitled to make you pay a reasonable fine, if they couldn't fill the table.
- Restaurants are entitled to add a service charge (normally this is about 10%) although this must be made clear to you before you order food. If there is not a charge if is up to you if you leave a tip!
Remember: don’t except any food that is not good enough for an animal to eat, first of its gross and lastly it may make you very ill. It would be a good idea to report it to the local environmental health officers. The laws stated in this article apply only to England and Wales
