Who is the Right Person to help you to Learn To Drive?

So, your now 17 and the dreaded issue of driving has once again arisen with you and your parents over the dinner table one evening. Terrified about your first lesson…you will be! But don’t fear, everyone is naturally worried about driving, as it is a huge step. No one can ever imagine sitting behind the wheel for the first time.

It might be worth a try to twist your parent’s arm and let them take you out for a drive in their car. At least by doing that your first initial fear of driving might pass…even if you do bunny hop up the road for a couple of meters and stall! Whenever you do decide to attempt driving, be it with your parents or with a qualified instructor, you will find that for the first few minutes or so you will either:

A} Have an immense laughing attack

Or

B} Have a smile that is so wide across your face that you would have been the perfect candidate to play "The Joker" in "Batman".

And all simply because of the thought that this is you…(the one who had stabilisers on your bike, the one who needed help tying their shoe laces and getting dressed)… now sitting behind the wheel of a proper car, not your toy noddy car!!

You’re now ready to pick up the phone and book your first driving lesson…but whom do you go with? With so many instructors to choose from now it’s hard to decide. Do you go with the big company names? Or the local instructor? The best advice is to:

  • Listen to word of mouth: Ask your big bro or sis who they learnt with and what they thought. As annoying as it might be, this time you might have to actually listen to them and realise that they know what they’re talking about. (Don’t worry there aren’t many other times you’ll have to listen them!)

  • Ask around: Ask your friends who they’re learning to drive with, or who they’re thinking about going with, and why? Ask quite a few people in order to get different opinions so then you can put on your thinking cap and weigh up the pros and cons yourself.
