Movie Review: Sweet November @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich There's not much about this week as we are fully into the blockbuster season, which means one release a week till September. So how come it's a romance film, which is nearly a year old? Bizarre, is it any good? We found out. Sweet November @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich STARRING: Keanu Reeves, Charlize Theron, Jason Isaacs, Greg Germann, Liam Aiken, CERTIFICATE: LINE ON THE POSTER: She Just Needed A Month to Change His Life For Ever WHAT HAPPENS: Nelson Moss (Reeves) is a high-flying advertising exec who's is devoted to one thing only, his job, much to the detriment to those around him, including his suffering long-term girlfriend. However a chance meeting with the mysterious Sarah Deeva (Theron), while retaking his driving test, begins him on a path that will change his life forever. She fails the test, due to helping Nelson cheat and won't be able to drive for another month, so he tries to make up for it but all Sarah wants is for him to spend a month of his life with her. Nelson refuses thinking that she is insane but the worst day of his life is around the corner, as he loses his job ad girlfriend all in on day. This makes him rethink the offer and become Sarah's man for November, but why is she doing this? Is there something she isn't telling him. ANY GOOD?: No it's absolutely dreadful, a two hour snoozeathon that has nothing going in its favour whatsoever. Once again Keanu proves that if he's not a 'party dude' saying excellent, chasing buses with bombs or fighting agents in a computer programme he's a frightfully bad actor. While Theron proves she is a fantastic talent but struggles to ignite any chemistry with the wooden Reeves. The script over-wrought and far too trite and sentimental, whilst the plot is so ridiculous that it's unintentionally funny in places. The use of terribly cliché love songs in the place of an emotional and sweeping score was also a huge impairment to the film when it tried to engage the audience emotionally during the touching moments. It's a very sorry week for cinema if this is the only major release out. If you've seen everything else on at the mo', rent a video or see Shrek again as this is a pile of crap. BEST BIT: No...it didn't have one as far as I can remember. INTERESTING FACT: It's a remake of a 1968 film of the same name starring Anthony Newly and Sandy Dennis.
