Movie Review: Say It Isn't So @ UGC Cinemas

Writer-director team, The Farrelly Brothers, Peter and Bobby, have cornered the 'gross-out' comedy market with a string of hilarious films that include 'Dumb and Dumber', 'Kingpin' and 'There's Something About Mary'. They return here as producers on a new stomach churning comedy, but is it worth the admission fee? We took a look.

Say It Isn't So @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich

STARRING: Heather Graham, Chris Klein, Orlando Jones, Sally Field, Richard Jenkins, John Rothman

LINE ON THE POSTER: Sometimes love is closer than you think

WHAT HAPPENS: Local animal control officer Gilly (Klein), is on the look out for his long-lost parents and the love of his life. However he has an undeniably cynical attitude, that is until he falls love with town newcomer and disaster hairdresser Jo (Graham). Everything is going smoothly and marriage is one the cards until they learn of an awful fact that they are in fact, wait for it...brother and sister! Shocked and shamed Gilly retreats into a redneck lifestyle of cleaning up road-kill while Jo heads off to the remote Beaver, Oregon to marry her former boyfriend. However there was a mix-up in the medical record and Jo and Gilly aren't in fact related, so it's a race against to get to Beaver and stop the wedding. However the small-towns folk there think Gilly is a weirdo on the loose, cue a series of mix-ups and 'humorous' situations .

ANY GOOD?: Production duties don't, unfortunately, lend this film the magic 'Farrelly Gross Out Touch' as 'Say It Isn't So' has some very funny moments but fails pitifully it trying to contain them within a film that is enjoyable or worth-watching. It is neither and it staggers about like a rabid dog before finally dying a horrible death with a truly dreadful final half-hour. Although you shouldn't expect much from a film like this, a plot that kept together and made some sense would have been nice but no it couldn't even deliver that. Klein was fine as big-softie Gilly, by merely reprising his Oz role from American Pie but Graham was obviously after a Golden Raspberry Award with her terrible performance. 'Say It Isn't So' would be fine movie to rent out, talk through, eat through, drink through and oh yeah occasionally watch a funny bit...but it will bore you to tears in the cinema. Avoid

BEST BIT: A new meaning to a bad-hair day will be brought to you when you see what happens when Gilly goes to get his hair cut by Jo...you will squirm...I promise.

INTERESTING FACT: Director J.B Rogers' next film is American Pie 2, lets hope he does a better job with that than he has done with this.

LIKED IT, TRY: There's Something About Mary, The Wedding Singer or Kingpin
