Movie Review: Spy Kids @ UGC Cinemas

The world's best action-film director®, Robert Rodriguez is back with another original and mind-blowing blockbuster. However this time it's for kids....will it work? We found out.

Spy Kids @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich

STARRING: Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alexa Vega, Daryl Sabara, Alan Cumming, Cheech Marin, Teri Hatcher, Robert Patrick

CERTIFICATE:

LINE ON THE POSTER: REAL SPIES... only smaller

WHAT HAPPENS: Unknown to young Carmen (Vega) and Juni (Sabara), their parents Gregorio (Banderas) and Ingrid (Gugino) are top international spies who met and fell in love when on a mission to assassinate one another. They are now no longer involved on the missions to save the world but still have play a part in making sure the world is free from evil villains. However when secret agents start going missing like it's nobodies business, they are called back into action but their rustiness in the spying game leads to them disappearing as well. Will Carmen and Juni be able to survive alone? Will they escape from the agents who are after them? Who is the mysterious Floop (Cumming) and how is he involved? And will they follow in their parent's footsteps to become Spy Kids?

ANY GOOD?: Excellent, absolutely superb, this is a film that thrills you sooooo much that it can't help but charm the pants off yer and leave you wanting more. Although the plot is simple and sometimes holier then a Swiss cheese it doesn't matter when the excitement factor is Mach 10 and rising throughout. Rodriguez is without a doubt one of the best action director's in the world, ranking up there with John Woo, and his skills work wonders with a film that anybody will enjoy. Anything that has slow-motion and Mariachi guitars is unquestionably cool and when the action kicks in the pulse raises to a dangerous level. Banderas is the king of cool, Gugino is amazingly sexy and for once a film with kids in, isn't annoy...result. Go see and enjoy.

BEST BIT: The high-speed rocket pack chase is an adrenalin pumping thrill a minute extravaganza...oh yeah and a great cameo appearance by a top Hollywood star is the cherry on the top.

INTERESTING FACT: Even before this film was released a sequel was already commissioned on the strength of advanced showings. Seeing how it's gone 'mega' at the box office and is top notch they've probably made the right choice.

LIKED IT, TRY: Charlie's Angels, Toy Story 2 or Desperado
