Movie Review: The Wedding Planner @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich If she's not in the charts with her singles, or in the tabloids with stories about her love life, then J-Lo is on our screens where she started. But is she gonna score a hit with this? We took a look. The Wedding Planner @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich STARRING: Jennifer Lopez, Matthew McConaughey, Bridgette Wilson, Justin Chambers, Judy Greer, Alex Roco CERTIFICATE: LINE ON THE POSTER: A romantic comedy about love, destiny and other events you just can't plan for WHAT HAPPENS: Mary (Lopez) is the most successful wedding planer in the whole of San Francisco, if you want a wedding full of glitz, glamour and something you'll remember for the rest of your life, then you go to her. Whilst climbing the ladder of success she's just landed the biggest wedding of the year, for one of America's richest business women, and if she pulls it off then she'll become a partner in the firm. However there is one slight problem her life is all over the place and she can't find a man for her own dream day, plus her father has paired her up with an idiotic Italian cousin. So when a mystery stranger (McConaughey) rescues Mary from death she falls for him in a big way, but you'll never guess who he's getiing married to. ANY GOOD?: If you can stomach a romantic film that has no chemistry between the leads, makes very little sense, is full of poorly acted and stereotypical side characters then you'll love it...however if you're sane then you should give this a wide berth. Although Lopez has showed she can actually act, in the wonderful 'Out of Sight', she's does her best to prove everybody wrong here. She's truly awful as the uptight and maniacally obsessive Mary and the lack of chemistry with love interest Eddie (McConaughey) makes you scream. The script makes little sense and is offensive in it's depiction of certain nationalities, particularly Italians. What's the point of making this romantic comedy if there is not a romantic or comedic moment in the whole length of its miserable running time? The only redeeming feature is McConaughey's stoner charm but this provides little relief in a movie that will rank among the year's worst. BEST BIT: An ufortunate accident with a statue and some super-glue leaves McConaughy attached to rather embarrassing part of a Roman God. INTERESTING FACT: Originally J-Lo's character was Armenian and was arranged to be married, but due to her Latin looks they changed Mary to be Italian...probably why the film makes no sense then.
