Movie Review: The Watcher @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich We take a look at the new Keanu Reeves film, The Watcher. The Watcher @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich STARRING: James Spader, Keanu Reeves, Marisa Tomei, Ernie Hudson, Chris Ellis CERTIFICATE: LINE ON THE POSTER: Don't go home alone. WHAT HAPPENS: After leaving LA due to tragic events when hunting a devious serial killer (Reeves) detective Joel Campbell (Spader) he's now settled in Chicago. Heavily dependent on an array of anti-depressants and other drugs Campbell is seeking help from beautiful psychiatrist Polly (Tomei). However when a girl is found brutally murdered and Campbell finds pictures of her and older victims in his mail, it looks like the killer has returned. So when new pictures arrive with a deadline for when the a girl will die, it's a race against time. ANY GOOD?: Why of why did Keanu make this film? After seemingly losing his way for a while, along came The Matrix, Neo and those cool effects and he was hailed as the action hero for the 21st century. However he has gone back to those dark days of Johnny Mnemonic and Chain Reaction as this is a complete turkey of a film. Poor Keanu is probably the least convincing or scary bloodthirsty psychopathic serial killer in movie history...he really is bad, wooden as an antique table and chair. The supporting cast aren't much better, all are going through the motions for the pay check but then, with a script and plot this bad, you would do wouldn't you? Add to that a movie that merely looks like a load of MTV videos edited together with some car chases and you've got on eof the worst films of the year. Avoid it...it stinks. BEST BIT: A roof top scene that is a poor rip off of The Matrix. In a film that is devoid of any original ideas and quality moments this is a poor highlight but is never the less the only one. INTERESTING FACT: Due to the MTV-style of the film it is no surprise that the Director, Joe Charbanic, has directed music vids for Mary J.Blige, Coolio, Ice T and for Keanu's awful band Dogstar.
