Movie Review: Finding Forrester @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich

The Original and Best 007 James Bond, Sean Connery, is back on the big screen in a role as a reclusive writer but is it a hit or a miss? We took look.

Finding Forrester @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich

STARRING: Sean Connery, Robert Brown, F.Murray Abraham, Anna Paquin, Busta Rhymes

CERTIFICATE:

LINE ON THE POSTER: In an ordinary place, he found the one person to make his life extraordinary.

WHAT HAPPENS: Due to his amazing test results and also his abilities on the basketball court Jamal Wallace (Brown) is given an amazing opportunity of a place in a prestigious prep school in Manhattan, New York City. Reclusive William Forrester (Connery), who spies on Jamal and his friends from his mystical apartment overlooking the Bronx Basketball courts, witnesses all this. Jamal, by chance, befriends Forrester as they both share a common love of writing. The two help each other confront and overcome their inner demons and build to establishing Jamal as a great writer.

ANY GOOD?: This is an absolutely terrific film, all the performances put in by the fine cast are tremendous and Gus Van Sant shows why he, in my opinion, is one of the best and most innovative director's of the last ten years. Although the plot is a touch predictable and not entirely groundbreaking the movie is resoundingly feel-good and you will leave the cinema with a big grin on your face. Anna Paquin shone like the bright star she will be for the next ten years and Robert Brown has really big things coming his way judging by his brilliant performance. The film looked absolutely great, as Van Sant films always do, and the soundtrack was a perfect match for the slow-burning atmosphere of the film. 'Good Will Hunting' was a great film and Van Sant has come up with the goods again.

BEST BIT: Jamal showing the rich kids what he's made of on the basketball court.

INTERESTING FACT: Matt Damon pops up in an unaccredited cameo performance as a lawyer. He was the star and writer of the last Gus Van Sant film, Good Will Hunting and indeed wrote it.

LIKED IT, TRY: The Wonder Boys, Scent of a Woman or Dead Poets Society
