The Emperor's New Groove @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich

The new smash-hit Disney cartoon hits the cinema. So what's it like?

STARRING: (the voices of) James Spader, John Goodman, Eartha Kitt, Patrick Warburton, Wendie Malick and a theme song by Tom Jones

LINE ON THE POSTER: It's All About... ME

WHAT HAPPENS: Emperor Kuzco is the ruler of an ancient Inca Land and he's basically concerned about one thing...making sure he's got his groove. Doing this means he chucks old men out of the window, turns down beautiful princesses and has plans to turn a poor peasant's family hill home into a waterpark for his birthday. However before he can do that his evil assistant, Yzma, tries to poison him but he actually ends up a Llama and at the mercy of the poor peasant Pacha, who's home he wants to demolish. Will Pacha help the emperor, turned Llama, get his throne back? Will the emperor let himself be helped by a peasant? Or will Yzma ruin everything for both of them?

ANY GOOD?: Well it's a Disney cartoon so there is no way that this is going to be bad but then again compared to their recent excellent efforts this is not the greatest film they've done. The highlights are John Goodman (some maybe know him as Dan from the sitcom Roseanne or in King Ralph) as the kind-hearted peasant Pacha and Kronk (Warburton) the stupid himbo. The only problem is that it seems half-finished and a bit out-of-date in terms of animation but it's not bad at all, though nowhere near as good as the last Disney offering, Tarzan.

BEST BIT: Pacha and Kuzco the Llama's wild ride down a winding river, and a few huge waterfalls, while tied to a tree-trunk

INTERESTING FACT: The film was originally gonna be full of songs and musical bits, featuring Sting, but Disney decided to go for a stripped down approach and therefore there are only songs opening and closing the movie...a relief for some.

LIKED IT, TRY: Aladdin, Tarzan or Toy Story 2
