WHAT HAPPENS: It's 1973 and William (Fugit) is absolutely besotted by and has developed an unquestionable passion for rock music, due to his sister leaving home and giving all her records to him, when he was only nine. William has been writing for the local music magazines for sometime but a chance meeting with upcoming band Stillwater presents him with the biggest chance...go on tour with them and write up the results for Rolling Stone, America's Leading music mag. So getting together with Penny Lane (Hudson) and the 'Band Aides', not groupies but band helpers, they set off on a wild ride across America. On this journey William will discover love, loss, true friendship and the harsh realities of the music world.
ANY GOOD?: It's funny, romantic, moving, gripping, exciting, fascinating and simply quite brilliant. For the full two hours this film made my feel really alive and touched my soul. All the up and coming actors (they're almost famous...get it?) were terrific but in particular Kate Hudson was the brightest light shining amongst a fine array of tomorrow's stars. She's best known as the daughter of Goldie Hawn but this film proves she will definitely one of the biggest and best actors of the next ten years, with a performance that was mesmerising and enchanting. Crudup was great as the talented guitarist who's falling out with the band and Fugit was convincing and exciting as the innocent 15 year-old William. 'Almost Famous' will win at the Oscars and deserves to be seen as many people as possible, so don't miss out...SEE IT!
BEST BIT: When Stillwater's guitarist Russell Hammond (Crudup) declares he's a Golden God from the roof of a house party and decides to dive into the pool. One hilarious moment in a film that is totally jam-packed with them.
INTERESTING FACT: The story is actually based on the experiences of the film's Director, Cameron Crowe, who was writing for American Music Mag Rolling Stone when he was only 16. The actual group that Crowe first toured with was The Allman Brothers, whilst Stillwater are actually a fictional band.
