Film Review: Pay It Forward @ UGC Cinema Ipswich

Haley Joel Osment hit big when he starred as the kid who saw dead people in brilliant horror thriller 'The Sixth Sense', we checked out his latest release.

Pay It Forward @ UGC, Ipswich

STARRING: Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, Haley Joel Osment, Jim Caviezel, Jay Mohr, Angie Dickinson, Jon Bon Jovi,

CERTIFICATE:

LINE ON THE POSTER: When someone does you a big favor, don't pay it back... Pay It Forward

WHAT HAPPENS: Trevor McKinney (Osment) is a troubled 12 year old who has alcoholic mother (Hunt) and his abusive but absent father (Bon Jovi) to worry about. Despite all that he is inspired by his new social studies teacher, Mr. Simonet (Spacey), and the assignment that is set, which is to think of something to change the world and put it into action. Trevor's idea is to do something good for three people and instead of them returning the favours they have to 'pay it forward', by helping three people out themselves. This altruistic idea not only changes the his life and that of his mother and his physically and emotionally scarred teacher, but in those of an ever-widening circle of people completely unknown to him.

ANY GOOD: Sentimental and very slushy but also immensely enjoyable and well worth a watch. The two former-Oscar winners Spacey and Hunt are excellent as people emotionally and, in Spacey's case, physically scarred, by a tortured past. Whilst Osment is a true star and a refreshing change to the world of young actors, as he's not annoyingly cute and is fantastic at playing a character with a vast arrange of emotions. Some people have written 'Pay it Forward' of as emotional garbage but don't listen to them it's a good movie and you have to be overly cynical not to take anything away from it that you enjoyed.

BEST BIT: When Trevor brings back a homeless guy for shelter and food, the two of them attack the cereal with hunger and humour.

INTERESTING FACT: Eugene Osment plays the cop with the moustache giving directions and he's Haley Joel Osment's father and acting coach.

LIKED IT, TRY: American Beauty, The Sixth Sense and City of Angels
