Movie Review: Unbreakable

M. Night Shyamalan burst into the movie world last year when his great film, 'The Sixth Sense', made a huge amount of money at the box office and earned many an award nomination, including Oscars. Now he’s back, again with Bruce Willis, with his second film Unbreakable, which has all the signs that will be as fantastic and successful as 'The Sixth Sense'.

Unbreakable @ UGC Ipswich

STARRING: Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Robin Wright Penn, Spencer Treat Clarke, Charlayne Woodard

LINE ON THE POSTER: Are You Unbreakable?

WHAT HAPPENS: David Dunn (Willis) is your ordinary decent guy who has something extraordinary happen to him. Heading home to his family, he boards the train from New York to Philadelphia along with 125 other people but after a horrific crash he is the only person who escapes alive. Even more remarkably he doesn’t have a scratch on him. Dunn finds this difficult to come to terms, but as his marriage, family and life fall apart he comes into contact with the fragile, brittle-boned Elijah Price (Jackson) who may have the answers to why Dunn is ‘unbreakable’.

ANY GOOD?: Brilliant…absolutely brilliant, this will be one of ‘the’ best films for 2001 and it surpasses the quality of ‘The Sixth Sense’. The beauty of 'Unbreakable' is in it’s simplicity as apart from the two lead characters, played superbly by Willis and Jackson, barely anyone else figures in the film, besides Dunn’s wife and son. It’ superbly paced and builds to a cracking twist, which you will find very hard to predict. It’s also flavoured with fantasy and has a supernatural edge to keep all ‘The Sixth Sense’ fans more than happy. You’ll love this if you like good movies…but just make sure no one tells you the ending because it will ruin itso sssshhhhh!!!!! if you seen it.

INTERESTING FACT: Like ‘The Sixth Sense’, director Shyamalan pops up as a minor character in the movie…see if you can spot him, if you know what he looks like that is.

LIKED IT, TRY: Fearless, The Sixth Sense or Fight Club
