Movie Review: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon If you were thrilled by the Kung-Fu moves in ‘The Matrix’ and ‘Romeo Must Die’ well here comes another like no other packed with the coolest fight sequences and marshal arts ever seen on the big screen. Not only that it’s actually got a story and is going to need a sack for the Oscars to take all the awards home…so we took a look at it. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon @ Ipswich Film Theatre STARRING: Chow Yun-Fat, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Zi Yi, Chang Chen CERTIFICATE: LINE ON THE POSTER: A Timeless Story of Strength, Secret and Two Warriors Who Would Never Surrender WHAT HAPPENS: Set in 19th Century China, '...Tiger' introduces us to Li Mu Bai (Yun-Fat) the greatest and most skilled warrior in the realm. Li however is disillusioned by his slaying of many men, whilst protecting the Qing dynasty, with his powerful sword the Green Destiny. So he gives it away as a gift and entrusts it to Yu Shu Lien (Yeoh), an equally powerful fighter and swords-woman, for safe keeping. However the sword is stolen by a new powerful foe and Li and Yu come together to track it down, whilst protecting the Kingdom and keeping their unspoken love for each other quiet. ANY GOOD?: Absolutely fantastic, beautiful and visually stunning, it is going to take a very, very, very good film to rival this for the best movie of 2001. If you don’t like subtitled movies then don’t keep reading, however if you don’t see this because it’s in Chinese the you’ll be missing out…big time and you’re probably not really into films that much anyway. However if you like Kung-Fu, romance or period dramas then you will adore this film…if you like all three then you’ll love it even more. The fight sequences are breathtaking , especially a duel high along tree branches, the cast are brilliant and the movie thrills for the entire two hours…SEE IT. INTERESTING FACT: Film-maker of 'Crouching Tiger...', Ang Lee also directed the award-laden adaptation of Jane Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’ starring Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson. Shows he’s a versatile guy…doesn’t it. LIKED IT, TRY: ‘Ashes of Time’, ‘The English Patient’ or ‘The Matrix’ VERDICT:
