The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps @ Odeon, Ipswich

STARRING: Eddie Murphy, Eddie Murphy, Eddie Murphy, Eddie Murphy, Eddie Murphy, Eddie Murphy, sorry I forgot to mention Eddie Murphy, oh yeah and Janet Jackson's in it as well.

VERDICT: Probably the one of the worst films of the year…I mean this was terrible.

OK, many of you will probably like this film, or at least go and see it thinking it's gonna be good, I mean after the first one, which was a riot, this one could seem like a winner. However it is a film that like far too many before it, falls down on one simple reason, it's a sequel that DIDN'T NEED TO BE MADE. The first film was fine, Eddie Murphy was extremely funny, it was his big comeback after a series of really bad movies, and the low brow humour, particularly the 'your mama…' bit, was a big hit with anyone who likes a laugh. The second one however is whole different kettle of fish, which have gone off and now smells really bad.

Sherman Klump (Murphy) is the Professor in question who's a bit Nutty, his family, the Klumps (all played by Murphy, bar one) are a food-loving bunch whose eating habits and flatulence, provide the majority of the 'laughs' in NP2. Now if you've not seen the first, this one won't make any sense, but the plot (what there is of one) goes a little something like this. Sherman, had discovered a potion to make him a lot thinner in the first film, this produced his alter ego Buddy Love (Murphy again, without the make up that makes him look 10 stone heavier). Sherman discovered the true meaning of being yourself (aaahhhh...) and so Buddy was banished, but now he's back as a part of Sherman's personality and its playing havoc with his relationship with softy Denise (Jackson). However a catalogue of scientific disasters bring Buddy back to life and Sherman on the brink of losing his genius!

The Klump family's minor role in the first film, provided a lot of laughs but most of this film is devoted to them, and although funny at first it is a joke that soon becomes very tired and repetitive. The major problem is the plot, its the most weak and ludicrous idea since Weekend at Bernie's 2 and insults the intelligence so much by all the Scientific stuff being complete nonsense. What's most disturbing is that the centre piece joke focuses on a man being sodomised by a 30 foot Hamster, which takes the current climate of sicko humour (American Pie, Scary Movie et al.) one step further, though it did raise a smile. All in all, if you can stand 90 minutes of sub-standard toilet humour, with the occasional bit that's is actually funny, this is the perfect film for you, otherwise give it a wide birth.

If you liked this, you'll love:
